[ARCHIVED] Mosquito Information

Fight the Bite Mosquito Poster

In Collaboration with Cape Cod Mosquito Control Project and the NPS we are investigating sources of mosquitoes.  We know there is an increase of salt marsh mosquitoes around town, and we suspect they are coming from a few different areas.  Nauset Marsh and an area of overwash south of Nauset Light Beach are of particular interest. We are hopeful that we may be able to extend a special use permit issued by the NPS to Cape Cod Mosquito Control to effectively mitigate the issue.

Salt marsh mosquitoes can fly up to five miles and are daytime biters.

Please protect yourself by:
- Wearing protective clothing light colored, loose fitting long sleeves and pants
- Use repellents Some examples include: DEET (20-30%), Picaridin, permethrin treated clothing or oil of lemon eucalyptus. Make sure you repellent choice has an EPA Registration number and always be sure to follow the label instructions!
- Avoid outdoor activities if possible1-2 hours before or after dusk, or on cloudy, humid days with little to no wind
