Effective immediately, the entirety of the Nauset Estuary system, including Salt Pond, Nauset Marsh, and Town Cove is closed to the harvest of shellfish (Growing areas OC2-OC6). This is due to a bloom of the phytoplankton Alexandrium spp., which causes Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP) toxin, also known as “Red Tide”, in shellfish.
