The Eastham Climate Action Committee conducted a survey from March 19 to June 6, 2024, to gather information and opinions from town residents regarding climate change.The questionnaire was posted to a publicly accessible site publicized through various groups, venues, and media. Survey participation was voluntary and anonymous. The survey was completed by 246 full-time and148 part-time residents.
The survey had several objectives:
- Gauge residents’ beliefs about climate change,
- Assess their priorities for possible town actions to address climate change,
- Identify selected individual responses and barriers to their personal efforts to respond to climate change, and
- Determine how best to communicate information about climate change.
The survey also asked respondents about their self-assessed economic status and, as noted above, whether they reside in Eastham full-time (6 months or more). Both economic and residency status may be important factors influencing residents’ responses to climate change in Eastham and, therefore, to developing programs for addressing climate change.
