As of January 11, 2025, Salt Pond, including Salt Pond River, is closed to the harvest of shellfish due to a bloom of the phytoplankton Alexandrium spp., which is known to produce Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP) toxin (also known as “Red Tide”) in shellfish.
