Municipal Water Discussion
Ms. Vanderhoef informed the Board that the purpose of this meeting is to walk through the water presentation. She noted that the consultants will be at the informational meetings and the Special Town Meeting on October 1, to aid in answering questions. She added that questions from the May 2007 Annual Town Meeting were used in reorganizing the presentation. Ms. Vanderhoef added that there will be an informational slide summarizing the decline of Town’s wells. She noted that the number of wells that are affected is not at the critical point yet, however, it may be in the near future.
Ms. Vanderhoef noted that the Board should focus on the size and scope of the project and how the Town will attempt to make it affordable for residents. She added that emphasis should be on securing available grants and low-interest loans to help fund the project, as well as generation of revenue once the system is hooked up to commercial properties. Ms. Vanderhoef added that the goal is to service every parcel in Town and to provide clean drinking water to every house.
Elsbeth Pierson, reporter for the Provincetown Banner, questioned if there was any investigation regarding residents’ concern for what they put into the ground after there is municipal water. Ms. Vanderhoef replied that the residents are very concerned about the groundwater and does not see that as an issue.
Gwen Pelletier, Town Moderator, wished to discuss the format for the Special Town Meeting. She suggested having a panel of “experts” to address questions. Ms. Vanderhoef responded that she hopes to answer all the questions, but they have compiled a list of those individuals who the Selectmen recommend be on the panel. She added that the panel will be sitting in the front row of the auditorium as opposed to on stage. Ms. Vanderhoef suggested that the Board be given the opportunity for final comments. Ms. Pelletier felt that was very appropriate.
Selectman Burt noted that she will read the article at Town Meeting.
4:00 Adjournment
Selectman Schropfer made a motion to adjourn. The motion was seconded by Selectman McDonald and voted 5-0.
Respectfully Submitted,
Krystal M. Boyd
