  • CALL TO ORDER/AGENDA CHANGES
Chairman Sheptyck called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. at the Eastham Elementary School.  There were no agenda changes.

II.     CITIZENS SPEAK – No one wished to speak.

III.    PRIORITY BUSINESS

Administrators’ Reports

Mrs. Helman referred the Committee to her February 24, 2009 written report.  In it she  highlighted the excellent attendance figures since September; winter writing prompt results;    and the ongoing faculty discussion of the book, The Power of Our Words.

Consider FY 10 Budget

Assistant Superintendent Gail Briere indicated the school district was not getting firm figures from the stimulus, but it appears that there will be approximately $30,000 available for each of the next 2 years.  She recommended adopting the FY10 budget as it presently stands at $3,257,915, a 3.14% increase.  Hopefully we can adjust it down in March or April to an increase of only 2.03% with the use of the $30,000.  The Committee should keep in mind that the stimulus has some restrictions for its use.  She will keep the Committee posted.

It was moved by Joanna Stevens and seconded by Sean Fleming to adopt the FY 10 Eastham Elementary School budget as presented.  It was voted unanimously.

Superintendent Gradone spoke to the Committee about the private fund raising efforts being put forth for restoration of some of the Region budget cuts.

IV.     REPORTS AND INFORMATION

Cape Cod Collaborative – There was no meeting due to a lack of a quorum.  Mr. Fleming announced that the Collaborative’s replacement for Walter Healey is Paul Hilton, Assistant Superintendent in the Milton school system.

Building Committee Update – Principal Helman said there was nothing to report.

V.      APPROVAL OF MINUTES

The minutes of January 26, 2009 incorrectly identified Mr. Fleming as Mr. “Frazier” under the Cape Cod Collaborative information.

A motion was made by Sean Fleming and seconded by Wendy Frazier to approve the regular session minutes of January 26, 2009 as corrected.  It was voted unanimously.

Eastham School Committee, Regular Meeting, February 24, 2009

Mr. Krum wanted the Committee to know that he had heard rumors in the community that Eastham was cutting transportation and its kindergarten back to a half day.  Superintendent Gradone and Principal Helman assured the Committee that neither was true.

VI.     PAYMENT OF BILLS

VII.    ADJOURNMENT

It was moved, seconded, and voted unanimously to adjourn at 6:50 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Marcia M. Templeton, Secretary
